Nice info from all those that have contributed.

I will admit that I only attempted it the one time when I got it, needless to say i didn't have any sort of optimum build or party synergy. I put it aside until I felt the need to get it finished.

I'll probably give it another shot.

I didn't read everything. Sorry!
I just wanted to say that I did this with my mesmer and I was using Arcan Echo, Spiritual Pain and Assassin's Promise in that build. So far in quests where I have to fight tons of people, I have found that my mesmer is having the easiest time out of my other character's.
So long as monsters die on a timely basis the continuous armour ignoring AOE damage will quickly show itself. Just for fun, give it a try.
Maybe if you have a mesmer friend or can get norgu, it will help. I do not know if norgu is programmed to effectively use the Arcane Echo/Spiritual Pain/Assassin's Promise type combo. He seems only good at landing interrupts. Better than me.

Edit: I read some of the posts, and saw someone mention the Prophecies quest similar to this outside beetletun. OMG, is that one worse than this. You fight tons of waves while you and your henchmen are all under lvl 20 and lots of the baddies are necromancers....then you know frustration! Bring a necro for that one to steal the corpes as quickly as possible! Beetletun! Argghh!

I found this quest relatively easy with my renewal nuker- i equipped a good General Morgain with lots of healing shouts/chants, the inevitable SF/nuker, lightbringer's gaze (FTW!), and a death necro with well of profane and well of suffering, and a ward against melee on me, 4 henchies. OK, so we all died at one time or another but as long as you can micro manage your necro to produce lots of wells, and make sure he stays out of trouble and has a blood rit on him, you should get through this quest. And moving as soon as you appear certainly helps- staying at the spawn point is bad news!

If the master quest isn't hard to you, than the 4k exp should be more than enough to reward you.

Besides, the hardness of the quest is more of a reward itself.

This quest is hard?

I flawlessed it with heroes and henchman... you just have to pay attention to the patterns of the mobs...

lol, just tried it for the second time and breezed through it. Divide and conquer!

Use Olias (MM), and Dunkoro (Healing), Sogolon, Cynn, Devona, Gehraz, and Kihm.

I will admit, I found the quest nearly impossibly difficult if you stay at the head of the Centaur arrow.

yes, got my party wiped once...but other than that it was fairly easy:

(Heroes)
1 MM (with some kind of protection like armor of earth or evading)
2 SF Nuker (same as above)

I'm glad you did it Dougal!
There are probably many different ways of getting through the tough ones. You just keep thinking about it and applying your previous experiences to help learn what will work best.
I hope you had fun kicking der butts and will have fun thinking about how to approach another toughie in the future.

That was me. Yeah, Argghhh at first ... but don't you just love that quest now? No lie, guildies will race to get a spot on the team when anyone has a new character that can get that quest ... and then we'll abandon it so we can go again! Yeah, we're easily entertained. ANet should really make a way for that one to be repeatable and still let the poor new characters get their skill rewards the first time. Too many chars missing Holy Veil because they can't accept the reward and lose access to that quest.

I suspect the Battle quest will become a similar situation as more people find it and try it.

And freeked, I really do hope the best for you - a good night's sleep, and a lot of fun trying it again!

It looks like Dougal Kronik thinks the same as me, great minds think alike

Yes you use one of the oldest tactics in history, Divide and Conquer!

If you observe, you will notice that the next group from each area doesn't spawn until the previous group is wiped out. So knowing this, run out to meet the group coming in from the left and kill them. Stay where you are and kill each group from that direction until they stop spawning.

At this stage, head back to the groups at the quest location and start killing them. As soon as you see another group comming in, break off from the battle and run out to intercept. Repeat what you done on the left side. When that is done it's just a matter of taking out the groups spawning from the 3rd direction.

I think the master difficulty quests are put there to help you to learn statergy, not really to make things frustratingly hard. Lateral thinking.

hi

my hero's/henchmen and i just had a great little battle here.

as for the tactics we used, we just ran straight for them, tookout the first few groups then came back to the start of point and took then out, as soon as we saw any other groups coming at us we rushed them, we payed no heed to the cleric's.

I dont know much about classes other than Necro, seeing as i play slow and dont play often. But i know that Searing Flames eles can be a pain in the arse for anything that has a hp bar.

But three Necro option i would consider are
1st and formost - Spiteful Spirit Spammer. Just like me
2nd - Icy Veins spammed with Suffering.
3rd - Feast of Corruption necro.

I think we have missed the point that the OP was trying to make...it wasn't so much that the quest is hard but that the Rewards don't really justify doing it...or rather the Reward for a Masters Level quest are rather low...I agree 100% with both...I think Master Quests should be "toughened" up a little bit and the rewards need to be rethought...for example the gold reward should be atleast 1k since by the time you are lvl 20 you need gold more than u need exp since most skills cost close to if not already cost 1k each.
